Die renommierte französische Psychiaterin und Psychoanalytikerin Marie-France Hirigoyen, bekannt durch „Masken der Niedertracht“ (2003) hat in ihrem neuen Buch „Abus de faiblesse et autres manipulations“ (JC Lattès, Paris, 2012) ein ganzes Kapitel (Kapitel 2; S. 108 – 151) dem Thema „Alienation Parentale“ gewidmet. Sie schreibt in der Einführung (S. 14 – 15): „Im Kontext von konflikthaften Trennungen kommt es vor, dass ein Vater oder eine Mutter ihr Kind unbewusst manipulieren, um es dahin zu bringen, den anderen Elternteil zu verstoßen. Im Fall von „Parental Alienation“ sind die Kinder die ersten Opfer: Nicht nur, weil dieser Konflikt ihre psychische Zukunft beträchtlich beeinflusst, sondern auch, weil sie Komplizen bei der Ausgrenzung des zurückgewiesenen Elternteils werden, an der sie aktiv teilgenommen haben. Es ist wichtig, so früh wie möglich den Übergang von einer Situation, die während eines Trennungskonfliktes als „normal“ angesehen werden kann (Schwierigkeit seinen Platz als Elternteil zu finden), hin zum Pathologischen (Instrumentalisieren des Kindes, um es dazu zu bringen, den anderen Elternteil zurückzuweisen) zu erkennen und zu unterscheiden. Denn diese Bindungsruptur stellt eine schwere Misshandlung des Kindes dar. Elterliche Entfremdung ist ein „Missbrauch der Schwäche“, weil ein Kind von seinem Wesen her verletzlich ist und nicht die ausreichende Reife hat, um sich aus einem solchen Konflikt zu befreien.

Diese kritische, empirisch basierte Übersicht von Parental Alienation verknüpft die beste Forschungs-Evidenz mit klinischen Einsichten von Interviews mit führenden Wissenschaftlern und Professionellen.

Wamboldt (Eds., 2013) Parental Alienation Syndrome und Parental Alienation als „Caregiver-child relational problem“ (S. 191) und schlagen dafür Diagnosekriterien vor (S. 219).
